Presidential and Senate Statewide Poll
September 19, 1996

Mission Statement:

The intent of "The Iowa Project - 1996"©, KCAU TV, Sioux City, Iowa and WOI TV, Des Moines, Iowa Presidential and Senate Statewide Poll is to track the progress of the presidential and senatorial candidates in the state of Iowa prior to the general election on November 5, 1996. This will be accomplished by conducting a series of surveys over the course of September and October of 1996. This is the first in that series.

Sample Design:

All Iowa registered voters who actually voted in one or more of the 1994 Primary Election, the 1996 Primary Election, the 1992 General Election, or the 1994 General Election, and those Iowa voters who registered to vote on or after January 1, 1995, had an equal likelihood to be included in this survey, provided their registration record contained a telephone number.

1694 random phone contacts were made in order to obtain the final sample of 500. Only the respondents who were the listed registered voters and resided at the listed addresses were interviewed.

The primary data for this survey was obtained through 500 complete, 5-7 minute telephone interviews. The primary data was collected on September 19, 1996.

The results of this survey are based on the answers of all the respondents interviewed. This survey has a margin of error of + or - 4.38% with a 95% degree of confidence.
