The results of the survey are the first stage of “The Iowa Project -1996”, conducted by PSI, which will survey likely caucus attendees periodically up to the February, 1996 presidential caucuses. This evening’s release is the first in that series.
“At this stage, Bob Dole is clearly the person to beat,” said PSI president and survey director Craig Tufty. “There has been virtually no erosion of support for Sen. Dole in the state since his victory in the 1988 Iowa Caucuses. One year from the 1996 caucuses, it is Bob Dole’s to lose.”
The PSI Survey conducted between 1/16/95 and 1/23/95 from completed calls to 300 likely caucus attendees showed the Republican candidates standing as follows:
| Robert Dole | 36.0% |
| Dan Quayle | 8.7% |
| Jack Kemp | 5.7% |
| Phil Gramm | 5.3% |
| Ross Perot | 4.3% |
| Newt Gingrich | 2.3% |
| James Baker | 1.3% |
| Pat Buchanan | 1.0% |
| Arlen Specter | .3% |
| Lamar Alexander | .3% |
| Pete Wilson | .0% |
| Undecided / Pushed | 7.6% |
| Undecided | 27.7% |
| Total: | 100.0% |
